I'll start with the "Not-So-Bad" ones and move on from there.<br /><br /><div><div><div><div><div></div><br /><br /><div><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 155px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 201px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348027232740584274" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi51GFjIqLt0V3vOmRWedJcTwx_QxlhFLhRmF05SJXXXUm3N32i-oObVZod4knxlmahAom7YwNXiYnsUFAO1qmPok3YQeBNB0clZ4evyhrhgW9G1j8GY_h0Zz56zZkY9LZcBfBrrtNPbrn6/s320/avril.jpg" /><strong>Avril Lavigne</strong> - Her teeth aren't horrible. In fact, it is really just her canines that look like fangs. It looks like this is partially because her front 4 teeth are tilted inward a little and the canines are pushed out a bit. This usually isn't a desired look for someone but with the recent popularity of the Twilight series, I'm thinking maybe people will try to get their teeth to look like this. Edward would be so excited.</div></div><br /><div>This could be fixed really easily with braces. Because she is a celebrity, Invisalign braces may work best for her because they could be removed for performances.<br /></div><div></div><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9og7WpotCUd38O3peHI8A4EEIIjSILVuDh2HhwAoQNo4-nD1CsuQczihzgSz_zLSrRxW3L6vNi4pfVTei4kN3j0Frn7Qw1ngYfq51ZBYRKRXL09JJtz7A5hQgkv9mgu8KzQqo2D_KWhAF/s1600-h/madonna.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 162px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348028188119142050" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9og7WpotCUd38O3peHI8A4EEIIjSILVuDh2HhwAoQNo4-nD1CsuQczihzgSz_zLSrRxW3L6vNi4pfVTei4kN3j0Frn7Qw1ngYfq51ZBYRKRXL09JJtz7A5hQgkv9mgu8KzQqo2D_KWhAF/s320/madonna.jpg" /></a><strong>Madonna</strong> - Okay, no big issue here except that you could "Vogue" your way straight through that gap in her front teeth. Isn't amazing how a mega-superstar would never get something like that fixed? But I guess if you are Madonna, you do whatever you want.<br /></div><br /><div>If she were so inclined to close the grand canyon, braces would do the trick. I say the metal ones just because I think it would be funny to see Madonna with wires and brackets. She could also do veneers but the teeth themselves are pretty so I'd hate to cut them down and cover them if we could just move them over and have them look great.</div></div><br /><br /><div></div><br /><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbINgUGLMCFszJ5_DsSC8V5Pu1JuegSaFq_QBW5scuohOkKeYP6oY5mGig4hgLeanraxddOzV-_onw5KaZHVhIo9ZNs-j2VA8yio2GOoo8An5Xc6a_UhqRUJGp4H1p4aamPguPg5tSUmt7/s1600-h/jewel.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 158px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 219px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348058825735551506" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbINgUGLMCFszJ5_DsSC8V5Pu1JuegSaFq_QBW5scuohOkKeYP6oY5mGig4hgLeanraxddOzV-_onw5KaZHVhIo9ZNs-j2VA8yio2GOoo8An5Xc6a_UhqRUJGp4H1p4aamPguPg5tSUmt7/s320/jewel.jpg" /></a><strong>Jewel</strong> - This one has bugged me ever since high school. I hated seeing her video for "Who Will Save You Soul" on MTV and seeing this really cute girl singing with this crazy snaggle tooth sticking out. I am baffled that someone wouldn't have this fixed. Especially being in the spotlight all of the time.<br /><br /><div>All Jewel would need is braces. Invisalign might be able to do it but sometimes when teeth are really crowded, we have to go with metal braces. Should have thought of that before she was famous. Could be hard to pull off the braces look now.<br /></div><br /><br /><div><br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLA4K0kDj5q4Sn7VnYbLzxM4MuVenT130Xk5CFfzbOInzUo1Lst92DkARpcv1OZkffsxMFme-eCKfhC5i8IzoxeJD_SCJKGVgfgiRnVW_s45fzZF3iAa3Fnxdzy2iGCDkQqQUp_9J0NbDk/s1600-h/nelly.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 159px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348048261202206738" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLA4K0kDj5q4Sn7VnYbLzxM4MuVenT130Xk5CFfzbOInzUo1Lst92DkARpcv1OZkffsxMFme-eCKfhC5i8IzoxeJD_SCJKGVgfgiRnVW_s45fzZF3iAa3Fnxdzy2iGCDkQqQUp_9J0NbDk/s320/nelly.jpg" /></a> <strong>Nelly -</strong> No real comment here. If I were to go with one metal tooth in the front it would probably be solid gold with diamonds or something. But maybe Nelly had this one done before being famous so he could only afford a tin or aluminum front tooth.</div><div><br />He should probably go up a couple sizes in hat as well because his doesn't quite seem to fit down all the way. Maybe he could only afford a children's size hat back then too. Poor Nelly.<br /></div><div>If he decided on a more natural look, a porcelain crown would be the best treatment. They blend so well with the natural teeth that you can hardly tell they are in there.</div><br /><br /><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXwpJvgJiMSdW7jONtPhyphenhyphen0MQRHJdJ0t3dLMzfjvoqvcmyyk5RJIy4tRcLLsnqLB1l8MR0ynmc5_RMdinZtEvlk17natSHPoS3c2mCTLv0UeaelCIxTH-gxpT5zxSI6V6ULLmmyEz9uNo8M/s1600-h/brooke.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 161px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 222px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348053973961407714" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXwpJvgJiMSdW7jONtPhyphenhyphen0MQRHJdJ0t3dLMzfjvoqvcmyyk5RJIy4tRcLLsnqLB1l8MR0ynmc5_RMdinZtEvlk17natSHPoS3c2mCTLv0UeaelCIxTH-gxpT5zxSI6V6ULLmmyEz9uNo8M/s320/brooke.jpg" /></a><strong>Brooke Hogan</strong> - I don't really want to call her a celebrity but the picture is easy to comment on. Just a note to any of the young white girls reading this and hoping to star in a future reality show about your dysfunctional semi-celebrity family...avoid the silver/diamond grill on the front teeth. I have yet to see a preppy blonde girl pull this off.<br /></div><div>I wonder if her dad Hulk Hogan is mad that she borrowed sunglasses from his arch rival the Macho Man Randy Savage. I thought I would take this Memorial Day to cover some of them.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><strong>1. They are super-thin</strong>. Not much thicker than a contact lens! This is important because it means that as the cosmetic dentist, I don't have to grind away as much of your natural tooth to achieve a dramatic result.</span><br /><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339857253710571730" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 206px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 158px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4MqcjhAM0Za5C9DmnJN_sQMj1mm9k8vPCfwfTPArkKkJ5okmRnVYhGd4MkjkqzUl1NqS4W5Im18yuKolLG9iz6EWEfiwf-EhtbpFMHT0XagiJuJge55zUfotsr6ja-JDPUxECj1iOR9Yc/s320/thin+veneers.jpg" border="0" /><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><strong>2. Color Change</strong>. Even though veneers are so thin, we can use them to completely change the color of your teeth. Even the most yellow teeth can be masked out and transformed into bright white.<br /></span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><strong>3. They Can Look So Real</strong>. In the past, veneers tended to be very monochromatic. You got one color for the whole tooth. But natural teeth don't look like that. Natural teeth tend to be a little darker near the gums and a little transparent near the tip. In between they can have any combination of colors. These color variations are what make veneers look real. Dentists who work with the right dental labs can recreate these color changes in the porcelain. We can usually pick out someone who has poorly-done veneers because the teeth just look fake. White...but fake. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0DPCEKiSA4QhU2LfF_rz8EWMwnhX8L0a6kjAkGDzdVG4syQSW6Ibtc0b4Y57K-twM7WdxHquNksxAMcdmUnaquUYJ725H0ZDUkihCebV9BdR7ARtpIK2T-SMvZU7zMuzYTUeuXzi6lC4W/s1600-h/PorcelainVeneers_53150536_sq_thumb_m.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339857674675867922" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 223px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 229px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0DPCEKiSA4QhU2LfF_rz8EWMwnhX8L0a6kjAkGDzdVG4syQSW6Ibtc0b4Y57K-twM7WdxHquNksxAMcdmUnaquUYJ725H0ZDUkihCebV9BdR7ARtpIK2T-SMvZU7zMuzYTUeuXzi6lC4W/s320/PorcelainVeneers_53150536_sq_thumb_m.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /></span><a href="http://www.doc4smiles.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/PorcelainVeneers.53150536_sq_thumb_m.jpg" mce_href="http://www.doc4smiles.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/PorcelainVeneers.53150536_sq_thumb_m.jpg"></a><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><strong>4. Shape Change.</strong> With porcelain veneers we can completely change the shape of a tooth. Many people have chipped or worn down their teeth over the years. Others have teeth with gaps between them. Many people's teeth are crowded. All of these issues can be fixed with veneers less than 1.o mm thick!</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><strong>5. Confidence!</strong> I can't tell you how many of our patients come back after having their veneers done and tell me that they catch themselves smiling so much more. Having a smile you can be proud of does wonders for your self-confidence. I have had patients claim that their new smile has helped them get raises at work, ask out girls they never would have before, and live a happier, more fulfilling life. It is amazing!</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">So these are a couple of reasons why I love porcelain veneers and smile makeovers. They can look so real and they can change your life. This is the truly rewarding part of my job. When people ask how I can look in people's mouths all day, I tell them that its because later I get to see people's smiles all day. </span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">Dr. Heap<br /></span><br /><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">P.S. - I always do completely free smile analysis and consultations. Even if you just have little details about your teeth that you don't like, come see me. Sometimes we can improve a smile drastically without major dental procedures.</span><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="center">480-892-1711<br /><a href="http://www.lakesidesmiles.com/" mce_href="http://www.LakesideSmiles.com">http://www.lakesidesmiles.com/</a></div>Dr. Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03657837515264484476noreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-329117913137890961.post-14915671272874299382009-05-22T20:03:00.000-07:002009-05-22T20:05:35.168-07:00Why Do We Remove Wisdom Teeth?Last week we saw a patient who had been experiencing soreness in some of her back teeth. About a year ago we saw her and recommended she have her wisdom teeth removed. She told us she didn’t see why they should be removed if they weren’t bothering her. We explained all of the possible problems involved with most wisdom teeth (see previous post “Wisdom Teeth“) and showed on the x-rays the way that hers were growing in at an angle that could possibly damage the other teeth.<br /><br /> Needless to say, nothing was done about these wisdom teeth. A year later she has returned in pain. When we took the x-rays we found that her wisdom teeth had continued to grow forward and had caused terrible damage to the teeth just in front of them. The damage was so bad that we couldn’t save the wisdom teeth or the ones they had grown into. So instead of removing a few wisdom teeth very easily, we had to do a very lengthy surgery in order to take out 6 teeth!<br /><br /> The moral of the story is…get your wisdom teeth checked if they have never been removed. If your dentist recommends removal to avoid other damage, please do it! You don’t want to be in a situation where other teeth are affected. The process is so easy. You basically go to sleep and when you wake up, everything has been done.<br /><br /> We offer completely free consultations and x-rays if you are concerned about your wisdom teeth. Please just give us a call or shoot me an e-mail if you have questions!<br /><br />Dr. Heap<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">480-892-1711</span>Dr. Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03657837515264484476noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-329117913137890961.post-39678771725337631992009-05-03T19:59:00.000-07:002009-05-03T21:12:22.031-07:00Sedation "Sleep" Dentistry<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:180%;"><br />What could be better than going to sleep and having all of your dental work done before you wake up?<br /><br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmEdLR_qLa28XNE0aFntW8ir70jygA8IucUCIwkdsOa_HmwxgO5w7MPcCRVfEdtMwo9Ab6xSr9e_2QfW2wtw5qJO2E5xG-BL0x28aYFGVwIWuim6JtKeyXNKljKv-J66n8a-jbS80eEPkt/s1600-h/sedated-woman.gif"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 269px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmEdLR_qLa28XNE0aFntW8ir70jygA8IucUCIwkdsOa_HmwxgO5w7MPcCRVfEdtMwo9Ab6xSr9e_2QfW2wtw5qJO2E5xG-BL0x28aYFGVwIWuim6JtKeyXNKljKv-J66n8a-jbS80eEPkt/s320/sedated-woman.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5331798425153859410" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:130%;"><br /></span><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:130%;"> </span><span style="font-size:130%;"> <span style="font-size:100%;">We are now excited to offer sedation dentistry at our office. Not only is he incredibly good at what he does, he is an incredible person as well. We hope you get to meet him soon! Here is a little more about him:<br /><br />Dr. Heath Snell completed his undergraduate studies, graduating Summa Cum Laude, from Arizona State University. He then went on to pursue his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Colorado School of Dentistry. While in dental school Dr. Snell received several honors and awards and was nominated in to the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honors society.<br /><br />Following dental school, Dr. Snell completed a one-year course of study in Advanced Education in General Dentistry where he gained the needed training to perform such complex dental procedures as placement of dental implants and extraction of wisdom teeth. Because of this extra training, he is also certified to perform “sleep dentistry” using either oral or IV sedation.<br /><br />Dr. Snell is a member of the American Dental Association, the Arizona Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Dental Society of Dental Anesthesiology.<br /><br />When he is not working, Dr. Snell really enjoys spending time with his wife, Chelsea, and their three kids, Brooklyn, Caden and Brynlie. He also enjoys athletics, photography, and is very active in his church and community.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-329117913137890961.post-2255582670407546842008-11-04T19:49:00.000-08:002008-11-04T19:58:29.084-08:00Whoopi's Words of Wisdom<embed src="http://www.crowncouncil.com/Portals/0/flashvideo/player.swf" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="volume=90&image=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crowncouncil.com%2FPortals%2F0%2Fflashvideo%2FTheView-Whoopi-Teeth-preview.jpg&file=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crowncouncil.com%2FPortals%2F0%2Fflashvideo%2FTheView-Whoopi-Teeth.flv&bufferlength=1&plugins=viral-1" height="260" width="320"></embed>Dr. Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03657837515264484476noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-329117913137890961.post-17205997025674789162008-06-26T19:45:00.000-07:002008-06-26T21:16:24.364-07:00CEREC - Computer Designed Dentistry<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRc79TX9EB54FNTKFiGVCQZiQJRgvCsLjGQnYoXHfL-_7RoKy3w9z1lSLkm85Pn-9BYoHkixtjLYB6AT_prr-7IjoiFVazmy7tbfvs_VLTBX_CtRVgMuPZw-hhJ8qKqD6q3wda1g52p42a/s1600-h/Cerec+image.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRc79TX9EB54FNTKFiGVCQZiQJRgvCsLjGQnYoXHfL-_7RoKy3w9z1lSLkm85Pn-9BYoHkixtjLYB6AT_prr-7IjoiFVazmy7tbfvs_VLTBX_CtRVgMuPZw-hhJ8qKqD6q3wda1g52p42a/s320/Cerec+image.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216388815686256226" border="0" /></a>Last week we got a new addition to our office and I am so excited about it! It is the CEREC 3D CAD/CAM machine.<br /><br />This machine is amazing! It allows us to design a crown, inlay or onlay with a computer and then a machine in the office takes the design and cuts the crown out of a solid block of porcelain!<br /><br /><br /> So we don't have to take an impression with all of that goopy stuff and then put in a temporary crown and then make the patient come back two weeks later to get their crown. It all happens in one visit of about an hour.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2kB_tz6SHuzFtRr_mBhlipNXDROSCtM4u3bwIZZMY8iNe0281KXkNxbt1ahD0KF6RLcJ7hUMSEmVEGR5x1Ogd9MwWqrDYzdfZYy2MYb-f-Pf22tpRQvii_ZWiM13yGSD6efmUyI-ZkekE/s1600-h/CEREC+-+before.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2kB_tz6SHuzFtRr_mBhlipNXDROSCtM4u3bwIZZMY8iNe0281KXkNxbt1ahD0KF6RLcJ7hUMSEmVEGR5x1Ogd9MwWqrDYzdfZYy2MYb-f-Pf22tpRQvii_ZWiM13yGSD6efmUyI-ZkekE/s320/CEREC+-+before.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216392533008479474" border="0" /></a><br />And these crowns are all-porcelain which is superior to most other types of crowns commonly fabricated in a dental lab. They look so much more natural than crowns with a metal substructure.<br /><br />So here are some pictures of the process:<br />The first one is a "Before" picture of a couple teeth with old broken-down silver fillings.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjznnojj7nSaMGtlyeKUh_wbETZH8U0JCEqwI-kT7fvmmrnr288FfwxsYfLnd-PpCo9yFrEG7jLaxzlZnuAX_Waq0v8J6jRO-l5gMR58v3mwaKW0sNr7IBGDLx0ZZcXPOuzSGK1Q1aYMd5F/s1600-h/CEREC-design+1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjznnojj7nSaMGtlyeKUh_wbETZH8U0JCEqwI-kT7fvmmrnr288FfwxsYfLnd-PpCo9yFrEG7jLaxzlZnuAX_Waq0v8J6jRO-l5gMR58v3mwaKW0sNr7IBGDLx0ZZcXPOuzSGK1Q1aYMd5F/s320/CEREC-design+1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216388851939611762" border="0" /></a><br />Once we've removed the fillings and prepared the teeth for the crown, we take a picture with our special scanning camera and it turns the picture into a 3D model on the screen.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWgHAv4LoyqT0XbU6ixTRf8uCKySV9wuXHtAbTBs9FUuSdN0CpO8LRsjGU3gThd7cu71eYIk_PMlwf6u_wPTilfR8q7opRutK_YSk-vEfqJXp9FdiWiri6vVp1FOTaZiYpLgDjnora2IOi/s1600-h/CEREC+-+design+2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWgHAv4LoyqT0XbU6ixTRf8uCKySV9wuXHtAbTBs9FUuSdN0CpO8LRsjGU3gThd7cu71eYIk_PMlwf6u_wPTilfR8q7opRutK_YSk-vEfqJXp9FdiWiri6vVp1FOTaZiYpLgDjnora2IOi/s320/CEREC+-+design+2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216391982468384946" border="0" /></a>From the 3D model we can design a crown that will fit the tooth. The computer software actually goes through thousands of calculations to produce a crown that not only fits, but mimics the natural shapes and contours of the other teeth in the mouth. From there I can change the shape, size, or even carve my initials into it.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk5VKkBkJgzqATWiYEsIF2_51u1fF-UlLH8biABi6WowmEgRfetyBG0wizoC69oSqB1ZNMrLv_nfh4rWJiTkYTjh-mHs4grdkptctxCJ5CbwT04lMduDlvrsOU_8UGLYxxjunVVbh_VsCV/s1600-h/CEREC+-+milling.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk5VKkBkJgzqATWiYEsIF2_51u1fF-UlLH8biABi6WowmEgRfetyBG0wizoC69oSqB1ZNMrLv_nfh4rWJiTkYTjh-mHs4grdkptctxCJ5CbwT04lMduDlvrsOU_8UGLYxxjunVVbh_VsCV/s320/CEREC+-+milling.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216391982123358034" border="0" /></a>Once we have a design we like, we click a button and place a porcelain block in the milling machine. The machine has two rotating diamond burs that cut our crown out of the solid porcelain. It takes about 10 minutes to cut it and then we are ready to bond it to the tooth in the mouth.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsx_QYOfC1HblOJQHhYj8wPqSgS3278qK5n449dYjM39uXaQSaRoBZlWp6T_ciJm79-UD5bZuzmk8v0CKrIxMSvTeVyO6SSxDZeOWJtx733A3vHU4_ad2NexLA2WKQ_Mje-L6j1H17_3xx/s1600-h/CEREC+-+After.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsx_QYOfC1HblOJQHhYj8wPqSgS3278qK5n449dYjM39uXaQSaRoBZlWp6T_ciJm79-UD5bZuzmk8v0CKrIxMSvTeVyO6SSxDZeOWJtx733A3vHU4_ad2NexLA2WKQ_Mje-L6j1H17_3xx/s320/CEREC+-+After.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216391990081374610" border="0" /></a>As long as the crown has been designed right, it fits perfectly onto the tooth and, as you can see, looks incredibly natural. It is hard to even tell where the tooth and porcelain meet.<br /><br />The CEREC technology has been an incredible advance in the way we practice dentistry in our office. We can now provide the highest quality dentistry available in a way that is convenient to our patients.Dr. Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03657837515264484476noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-329117913137890961.post-1423774763538626872008-06-03T22:17:00.000-07:002008-06-03T22:27:25.243-07:00What Happens If You Miss Your Cleaning?I am often asked, "What would happen if I missed my 6 month cleanings?" Maybe my curse in life now is that I can't help but to look at everyone's smile in a critical manner. I don't mean to do it but I can't help it. But I thought it would be fun to put together some of the "Worst Celebrity Smiles." So here it goes...<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Tom Cruise</span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK3NJa78W7zBlpw88zSc8oDIE75gnaLCcWi0rKyz-4Sga4iwMVvrUf98soDTsFBaimmNOrARYl7QAn0CfuMUmJU_Ff7FaO4sK8WCcCJX8rFe6ASoPu0NmN_of2hhipjR8VE0k6Uzf9xaeD/s1600-h/teeth-tom-cruise-400a071807.jpg"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK3NJa78W7zBlpw88zSc8oDIE75gnaLCcWi0rKyz-4Sga4iwMVvrUf98soDTsFBaimmNOrARYl7QAn0CfuMUmJU_Ff7FaO4sK8WCcCJX8rFe6ASoPu0NmN_of2hhipjR8VE0k6Uzf9xaeD/s320/teeth-tom-cruise-400a071807.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5190822409152117730" /></a><br /><br />He is an interesting case because you don't notice that his teeth are bad until you know what you are looking for. His teeth are all straight but his entire upper jaw is shifted to the left...a lot. Instead of his middle teeth being lined up with the middle of his nose, they are lined up an entire tooth to the left. Unfortunately for Tom, the only way to really fix this would involve breaking his upper jaw away from his skull and repositioning it to the right. So I put together a small movie of some of the work we do at our office. I stuck it on YouTube but you should be able to view it here. Hope you enjoy it. It's done in High-Def but you'd have to come into the office to see it on the flat-screens for that becuase the quality isn't the best on YouTube. Enjoy!<br /><br /><br /><object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Smz_xkGbkLM"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Smz_xkGbkLM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>Dr. Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03657837515264484476noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-329117913137890961.post-1135311222598281842008-02-18T14:30:00.000-08:002008-02-18T15:38:37.802-08:00Cosmetic Smile Simulation<strong><span style="font-size:130%;">Now you can see your new smile before any work is done!</span></strong><br /><div><br /><br /><div>How great would it be to know what you could look like through cosmetic dentistry before going through the whole procedure?</div><div></div><div></div><div>Not only is it possible, but we do it every day and our patients love it. Silver fillings can last a really long time but when they decide to go, they go down in a blaze of glory.</div><br /><br /><div><strong>Let's examine further...</strong><br /></div><div></div><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFo6t6MAyhkJ47-nXWhBu7pSNmITWBND5PQ1B17wjsJMAcZQshe_uX6O3v_4sAGfMDSMqzabaYRscddiF8hK_GbXVUb4MvAPLw_tKt4Si7oWdz6QO-vu5GHnhbLbnyUZpEV1WDZhRUsnmS/s1600-r/Intra-Oral.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5139977088812713794" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; CURSOR: pointer" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9sJKva_WbwQPmLRFCm90oRzW2P0Tgi-XqjobQPHrFUZQrswwzjtL25bP791UvnOTZ80v0hzJ0WhnkyymuSbifVyxVYJmPOobLRYqhbZf5xvZueFTGbJzyuRpHsN8LxnDdhGBcwD1f9UlV/s200/Intra-Oral.jpg" border="0" /></a>Here is a tooth with a rather small silver filling. Our patient was complaining that it hurt when he chewed. Many older silver fillings break down around the edges and pull away from the tooth. This causes the filling to act like a wedge every time you bite down. The results are the fracture lines you see radiating from the angles of the filling towards the sides of the tooth. It doesn't look like much but many times these cracks run onto the root of the tooth which causes a lot of pain when you chew and the tooth flexes apart.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2L_MM3xmWJHcTInWLyUFsU-6hBFeGUrZhTUsaE1-kvnHfwFhOuj__g-NLNs0i58bgtHySooDURqaR7N7HAjldFzK1jztwOsJLBLX3CYr7dB_pzVCyU_RG4fuJTcckeME5P0vPap8KN0Ph/s1600-r/Intra-Oral0.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5139982238478501714" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; CURSOR: pointer" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIzaAjZGOVI_Q2vLSuXZg3S0jpQOm4U0hCOCxnXvyKj-EMXnuXzErM20lAyQIGbksgCz5lnphglhUfEAZxQxl7RvwNXMmp_JbQtC4hbSTgiqCJM0S_G2Ba-n2Bk-UQkpsFZ5x5jHO4qieO/s200/Intra-Oral0.jpg" border="0" /></a>So when we started to remove the filling and see where the cracks went, the entire corner of the tooth literally fell off without any effort. The cracks had run across the floor of the tooth and to the other side. Luckily, the tooth fractured above the bone level and didn't involve the nerve so it can be repaired with a crown. Worst case scenario means the tooth needs to be removed or needs a root canal to save it.<br /><br /><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5146096711382653890" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8eNImxKLur5HqzmLrYio6FMlyDZ1gAWwh06k43JVfRYEK33X0LjEkHA7GJ8Tcho8mmE4SKH38hR1T8PpzEADZpB7E8KqYGm2yx7m9UuOqrv0dh9RIdHEhFlRsLPcsPOwjgb3yEiFLad3s/s200/Intra-Oral0.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div><strong>The Finished Result</strong></div><strong></strong></div><br /><div>It's nice that we can repair these teeth with such a natural appearance and in a way that will last a long time. This is a porcelain crown that will bite and function just like the original tooth did.<br /><div><br /><br /> </div><div><strong>The Moral of the Story</strong></div><div> </div><div>So make sure you have your dentist check your old silver fillings to see if you have any fractures. I see them in about 75% of teeth with silver fillings over 10 years old.<br /><br />If you catch them on time, you can fix them with a filling or sometimes a crown. If you wait too long then you run the risk of needing a root canal or losing the tooth. And we don't want that!<br />Get them checked! <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYc8JDruZ5MECoJUJV-ridRMHcu9gLvLrYRF6d6ar4vJj-yFcQS4eBVMpZuHb4aMYeT2Mh5Z2xJAbAkG9UEmpq74NhFSPVAxJG6bPjBdozm44KNS-pa1Qqe4DvnOc9dipImSk3jMtm6I0n/s1600-r/Intra-Oral0.jpg"><br /></div></a></div></div>Dr. Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03657837515264484476noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-329117913137890961.post-49914892970908939952007-11-08T13:54:00.000-08:002007-12-03T13:23:53.040-08:00How to do a Smile Makeover at Home<div align="left">So our favorite procedure in the office is the Smile Makeover. On "Smile Makeover Day" everybody in the office is giddy with joy and excitement. If you've ever seen the movie "Empire Records", it is kind of like Rex Manning Day.</div><br /><div align="left">Anyway, here is a photo/dialogue of how to do a smile makeover, in case you wanted to try it at home.<br /></div><br /><div align="center"><strong>Warning: Some of the pictures of the prepared teeth may shock you but just look at the end result!</strong></div><br /><p align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130595469989576498" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM1zYaBaTydGWq0tMkVZonqDgn1z_AYyv8W8-HPrWkasB-6D4zvu4Ktx_LBi99WajkEbcoWt2_piAmQe5mUQIbiqKIVEGgJ_DGqN-aC_XW9rtHImcXiK8F5L9oyrhIfMf0GwRNXZDYyXm2/s320/IMG_0435.jpg" border="0" /> </p><div align="center">This is our patient "Robin" (name changed to protect the innocent.<br />She didn't like the color and shape of her existing crowns and natural teeth.</div><br /><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnb1tHyL4tu0um2z5zaVJhFoSJaR9SuQr4AV58a4wNNcdQhqbqZ-iKkUvK5l8eZCXBd9NVGaMQ9CwZBfIBJpI7i0iXRotW-HzQfP8LTUjlrSFZ_1GoMQiyfO1B9qUq-B6GQO8ORL2nW74q/s1600-h/IMG_04350.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130609218179891122" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnb1tHyL4tu0um2z5zaVJhFoSJaR9SuQr4AV58a4wNNcdQhqbqZ-iKkUvK5l8eZCXBd9NVGaMQ9CwZBfIBJpI7i0iXRotW-HzQfP8LTUjlrSFZ_1GoMQiyfO1B9qUq-B6GQO8ORL2nW74q/s320/IMG_04350.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /></p><br /><div align="center"><strong>Step 1</strong>: We put her picture in the computer and design a smile simulation so she can see what she could look like with a new smile. I love how much younger patrients look!<br /></div><p align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130596376227675986" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7M6qzQllNg1ww0Yyfh0N7Hksk3pT3Op-pWgeWZXiwy2S339vdtnuD480PpaasIpCeoP_G0d8Ns9nRDRt5YisG3AsPkARqVHGYfcuL72vz7zC-_-XtPD8AbRJRMknNdLbIqlZzf9XIeChH/s320/Intra-Oral.jpg" border="0" /><strong>Step 2</strong>: Recontour the teeth to make room for the new all-porcelain crowns and veneers. When we started taking off her crowns we found that one had a fracture through the root and so the entire tooth needed to be removed! We replaced the tooth with a porcelain bridge.<br /></p><br /><br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiWn7bRUJ_sBP7O7U9PGTS3re9oKWnn9Q9gT3KzlvAwQCCGaRT_t0uMLeOobbry_-H_77RS5ZK_k0JQqlEpbq-5nwwNEbV28nQllivnq_BgJa7JKn8Ymthmsb6-lMo1MrFvRnRmHorjUFl/s1600-h/IMG_0517.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130613732190519250" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiWn7bRUJ_sBP7O7U9PGTS3re9oKWnn9Q9gT3KzlvAwQCCGaRT_t0uMLeOobbry_-H_77RS5ZK_k0JQqlEpbq-5nwwNEbV28nQllivnq_BgJa7JKn8Ymthmsb6-lMo1MrFvRnRmHorjUFl/s320/IMG_0517.jpg" border="0" /></a></p><p align="center"><strong>Step 3</strong>: Once the teeth have been recontoured enough to make room for the new porcelain crowns, we use color mapping to determine the shade of the teeth and how to blend the porcelain colors to give her the desired color she wants.<br /></p><p align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130598854423805810" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg62FIjWs0FGctOFkC1jHvm4P39M9sabqCoOIuhxOkq85le2Zf5TVxwWxzpajF8uFbQvfxWQW6Pv0dvm5yLI46a0SiPTSHzDZ_9vaeVCo0rsbbztlaoV6pXPe5HYhhAZO2iB03uvvLBvzxc/s320/IMG_0519.jpg" border="0" /> </p><p align="center">I know it doesn't look pretty at this stage.
